Listening to the Wood: Art by Tim and Debra Lincolnhol
At the intersection of nature, craftsmanship, and community, Streamside Timbers, LLC creates one-of-a-kind wood and resin pieces that begin not with a rigid plan, but with listening.
As Tim Lincolnhol often says, “I don’t quite know what I’m going to do with it yet — the wood hasn’t spoken to me.” That philosophy lies at the heart of Streamside Timbers and guides every piece that comes out of the studio.
Owned and operated by Tim and Debra Lincolnhol, Streamside Timbers transforms character-rich wood — including pieces others often discard — into meaningful, functional art that reflects patience, curiosity, and respect for material.
Finding Beauty Where Others Don’t Look
Many Streamside Timbers projects begin with wood that has already lived a long life: cracked boards, weathered slabs, offcuts, and even pieces pulled from a firewood pile. Where others see flaws or waste, Tim sees story and possibility.
He is drawn to wood with strong character — knots, dramatic grain movement, voids, and irregular edges — selecting pieces that spark curiosity rather than perfection. Debra often laughs and asks, “How did you see that character in that wood?” The answer usually reveals itself only after the work is complete.
This challenge — taking overlooked material and turning it into something beautiful — is one of the most rewarding aspects of their creative process and one that defines the spirit of Streamside Timbers.
A Creative and Technical Partnership
Streamside Timbers is a true partnership built on complementary strengths.
Tim is the primary creative force behind the larger pieces, allowing intuition and the natural form of the wood to guide each design. He often begins without a fixed plan, trusting that the right direction will emerge as the wood is cut, shaped, and studied.
Debra brings strong technical and computer-based skills to the studio, providing support through laser engraving, precision techniques, and thoughtful problem-solving. She also focuses on smaller-scale creations, using scrap wood to craft beautiful jewelry and other functional items — ensuring that no material goes to waste. She has also developed a passion for teaching and nurturing other artists to grow.
Together, they balance creativity and execution, imagination and precision, resulting in work that feels both expressive and refined.
From Discarded to Discovered
A recurring theme in Streamside Timbers’ work is transformation — not just of wood, but of perspective.
Pieces that might otherwise be burned or thrown away become tables, art objects, jewelry, and keepsakes. This approach reflects a deeper belief that creativity, like beauty, is often waiting quietly to be discovered.
As one of their favorite sayings reminds us:
“We are all artists waiting to discover and be discovered.”
That belief resonates not only in their work, but in how they engage with the world around them.
Community, Arts, and Simpsonville
Tim and Debra are proud to be involved in the arts community in Simpsonville and are passionate about seeing the arts continue to grow locally. They value creative spaces that invite participation, encourage curiosity, and make room for artists at every stage of their journey.
Supporting local art, for them, is about more than finished pieces — it is about connection, shared discovery, and creating opportunities for creativity to thrive close to home.
By highlighting artists like Streamside Timbers, we celebrate not only handcrafted work, but the people and philosophies that strengthen our creative community.
Growing the Arts, Together
Debra and Tim strongly believe that vibrant communities need accessible, visible art. Their involvement in the Simpsonville arts scene reflects a desire to encourage creativity at all levels — from seasoned artists to those just beginning to explore their own potential.
They actively support spaces and organizations that invite participation, spark curiosity, and help artists feel seen. Streamside Timbers has been closely involved with the Simpsonville Arts Foundation, with Tim serving as Board Chair for several years, helping guide the organization’s growth and outreach.
Their guiding belief remains simple and inclusive:
“We are all artists waiting to discover and be discovered.”
Through Streamside Timbers, they hope not only to create beautiful objects, but also to contribute to a culture where creativity is valued, shared, and nurtured.
